In 1946, three Putney residents — Jennie Pierce, Donald Watt, and Herbert Bailey — shared a simple but audacious idea. They believed that protecting the beauty of Putney Mountain would not just strengthen their community, but would return the world to peace.

To celebrate our 80th year of peace-loving conservation, we invite you to the first ever Picnic Re-enactment on the summit on October 25th at 2pm. Jennie, Donald, and Herbert will be portrayed by Adrienne Major, Bahman Mahdavi, and Jonathan Mack. There will be Morris Dancers and cider. Don’t be surprised if you hear the voice of Eleanor Roosevelt, inspiring the original war weary picnickers that peace is possible.
